THE BODY AS A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A Middle School Exploration of Biology, Emotions, and Self-Awareness - Ages : 11-14
What if children learned to understand the messages their bodies are sending before they reached adulthood?
In this engaging, hands-on exploration, students will discover how the body functions as an interconnected communication system. Through science, observation, discussion, movement, and journaling, they will learn how the brain, nervous system, hormones, and organs work together to help us think, feel, move, and respond to the world around us.
Rather than focusing on memorization, this class encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and self-awareness. Students will explore how body systems communicate through electrical signals, chemical messengers, and physical sensations while examining the relationship between emotions and the body.
Along the way, they will develop a deeper understanding of how their bodies work, how emotions can influence physical experiences, and how tools such as breathing, mindfulness, movement, and somatic awareness can support focus, resilience, and overall well-being.
Blending biology, emotional intelligence, and experiential learning, this exploration helps students better understand one of the most fascinating systems they will ever study: themselves.

" When we decided to start on a new educational path for our seven-year-old son, we knew we wanted to incorporate learning through nature and being outside. I found numerous programs to choose from and after doing some research and asking questions, we chose Monica's Aligned with Nature program.
This program has been a highlight of our son's journey this school year. He has made wonderful friendships with other kids in the class, and he has gained valuable life skills through the education Monica and Zoe provide. We belong to a charter and have been able to use journal entries, science experiments, and crafts as "work samples" on a monthly basis - something that is important and valuable. Our son has also learned how to meditate, do yoga and express his feelings - all of which have aided in his social and mental development.
For our family, this type of education and experience is vital and joyful. We are so happy to have found Aligned with Nature and look forward to continuing our journey with them for years to come" - Jaime S
